Fantastic experience: Really good service, Victor's lessons were great in preparing me for the restricted test and he knew the route extremely well. A1 was a big help in me getting my restricted and I would definitely recommend to others.

Fantastic experience: I have been learning from Paulo from A1 for the past 2 years (as I don't have my own car). Paulo is an amazing teacher and person - he is very patient, kind, friendly and supportive. I was very nervous and anxious to start driving, but Paulo helped me relax and be confident. He always reassured me that he has my back and that we are a team. When I wasn't sure about things, or made mistakes, Paulo never judged me, but instead talked me through how to be better. Paulo always believed in me, even when I didn't believe in myself. I always left every lesson happy, knowing that I was improving. Paulo always went out of his way to help and support me, and I greatly appreciate it. (I wouldn't have my license without him! + he helped my partner get his full too!). I will be back for my full!

Fantastic experience: At 44 I had never driven and had significant anxiety about learning. I called A1 Driving and spoke with Christine who assured me about the process and made me feel very comfortable that I would be in good hands. She recommended Wayne. Turns out Wayne had been recommended by a family friend as well. He took me through the entire process. From learning to steer to using the pedals and eventually to driving confidently on my own. I always felt supported in this process by Wayne; he was encouraging, clear and an enjoyable presence as an instructor. I now have my licence and the impact it has had on my life and my family's life is immense and immediate. I never thought it would happen. I recommend A1 Driving to anyone looking to get their licence. They are a fantastic company with old school values; decency, compassion and the experience to instill all the requisite skills required to get your licence.

Fantastic experience: Had a couple of lessons with Antoni to convert my Malaysian license. Great instructor! Very patient and knowledgeable. Sat for the full license test today at VTNZ Thorndon and passed from the first try with Wayne (used the school car for the test). Extremely grateful to both Antoni and Christine from A1 school. Much appreciated.

Fantastic experience: I used the A1 driving school to prepare for and sit my full licence test. Victor was my instructor and is an excellent teacher who helped me build my confidence to pass my test. Christine helped me organise my lessons and was always available to answer questions I had outside of the lesson. Overall I enjoyed my lessons with A1 and recomend them highly to anyone who asks! Fantastic experience: I have been working with Paulo to get my restricted licence. As an older learner driver with no experience, I was pretty nervous, but Paulo has been incredibly calm, patient and kind, building my confidence and helping me improve. I passed my test today and feel like I am a capable and confident driver. I would highly recommend Paulo and A1 driving school regardless of your age or ability.

Fantastic experience: I had Kamal as my driving instructor. He was very patient and make sure that I am understanding all the necessary skills and techniques for the test and daily drive. I was nervous and scared, Kamal made me feel super comfortable when driving and making me feel like I could easily achieve my license with his help. Fantastic experience: I had 3 lessons with Brian in Porirua before my restricted test and passed on the first try. He was a fantastic teacher, he treated the lessons like a test but would provide honest feedback and give good tips. I wouldn't have passed without his help.

He went above and beyond to ensure I passed and created a safe and educational learning environment. 10/10 recommend using this service but specially going through Antoni :)

Fantastic experience: After spending many hours and days driving and practicing for the test, I had felt very confident that I knew the road code and had mastered the skills required to get my Restricted license. I first booked a practical driving lesson with Paulo, a week prior to sitting my test at VTNZ and it quickly become apparent that I had a few skills I had to refine and focus on to pass my test. Paulo was kind and encouraging, but also very professional and focused. I couldn’t recommend him enough! I started with Manuel but got too impatient so switched to automatic as I’m 38 I just wanted full licence as soon as. Today I got my full test and I so so happy!!! Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience. Both Christine and Paulo were a delight to deal with - appreciated their friendly, calm and helpful instructions both in booking lessons and in taking lessons. I had very particular needs and Paulo was very accommodating - worked with me to bridge the gaps and improve my skills in a really short timeframe. Also reasonably priced. Rang A1 based on a recommendation from a friend and will definitely also recommend to friends. Thanks heaps guys - you're the best!

Paulo was a great instructor to drive with. He was reliable, encouraging and supportive. I appreciated his flexibility with early morning starts. I would recommend A1 Driving School to anyone looking for help to learn.

Negative experience: Experience with unprofessional instructor: Had a lesson with Paulo when it was raining somewhat heavily, and yes it's more difficult to have a lesson when it's raining but that doesn't mean you just avoid the road altogether. Paulo kept commenting on how my steering was no good and instead of trying to help me improve by driving on the road, he put me in a small carpark and got me to drive laps around it for 15 mins. Driving laps of the nearby suburban streets would have been more appropriate, not just round and round a carpark. At this same time he was barely engaged or aware of what I was doing anyway as he was tapping away on his phone and ipad doing a mix of texting and looking at all his bookings/other customers he had booked in instead of watching me and giving me feedback on what I needed to do to improve. Other times this also happened briefly where he would have his phone or ipad out and would be managing bookings or texting. Clearly your customers don't matter to you and you have better places to be. I now have an instructor from the AA and on the multiple times where it has been raining this has never affected the lesson - we still drive on the road as usual but just more carefully. Never had them pull their phone out either, instead their whole attention has always been on me as it should be. I'm paying for a lesson not a "watch someone play on phone" session. Also while I was driving around and he'd be looking at his bookings he'd also be asking me what the next time is that I could do a lesson. Can't that be left to the end of the lesson? I don't know my availability just off my head like that and it's distracting from the current moment. Overall not impressed with Paulo and felt he was out to rip people off with his ticket collector style.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend A1 Driving School. My son reluctantly went for a lesson with Brian after a very negative experience with another driving school. Brian was just what my son needed. My son was nervous and his confidence was very low until he met Brian. Brian was kind, patient and provided helpful tips which really helped my son pass his restricted test. We can not recommend him enough. Also, the lady Christine who takes the bookings, was incredibly helpful.

Negative experience: Very disappointed with A1 team.. left messages few time to make appointment for my daughter's Driving test but no one bothers to get back..wounder how their business works if they don't care about clients..poor service

Fantastic experience: Since January I have had weekly driving lessons with Brian to prepare for my restricted driving test and has been a great experience! Brian was patient and continuously had constructive advise that built my confidence. I wen't into my test ready with the skills I needed and came out with a pass the first time! Thank you Brian and A1 driving school!

Negative experience: Hopeless instructors around Wellington. A very old driver (instructor) cut me off completely on the Porirua motorway and then proceeded to give me the fingers. Not good example!

Fantastic experience: My son had a driving lesson with Brian from A1 in preparation for his full licence test. He said Brian was a great instructor and gave him lots of helpful tips. The a1 driving school office are also great to deal with as well and very efficient at getting back to you. Would recommend.
